The Hickory Stickory Business
One Man's Rustic Love
During the summer of 2007, Jared fell in love with the creation of rustic furniture from local hickory saplings; he uses hickory not only for their ability to grow straight and be flexible, but also because they regenerate very quickly- even sprouting from the stump the original sapling was cut. He harvests from local woods and his shop is at home, so he saves natural resources; for many of his table and bench-tops, he uses oak slabs (a by-product of commercial lumber production) from a local sawmill.
Jared harvests, designs, and creates all the furniture; his wife, Jessie, takes the photos and designs and produces the website and business cards; their pup, Bontecou, provides companionship and chews on the extra sticks.
